No honor among gamblers

A 44-year-old Silverdale man reported his jacket with his car keys missing from his chair at 3:14 a.m. May 12 at Clearwater Casino in Suquamish.

He said he was playing a slot machine when he went to use the restroom, leaving his jacket draped on the back of his chair and returned to find it gone. A surveillance videotape showed a woman in a Jeep Cherokee remotely locking and unlocking the man’s Lincoln Navigator in the parking lot. Videotape also shows her taking the jacket into the women’s restroom and then coming out and taking it to lost and found. A sheriff’s deputy ran the 44-year-old woman’s license plates from the tape and responded to her Central Kitsap residence. She admitted to being in the casino and having taken the jacket, believing it was abandoned and turning it in, but denied any knowledge of the keys. An investigation continues.

A cavity search

surprise

A sheriff’s deputy was on patrol in the East Bremerton area at 1:35 a.m. May 11 when he noticed a fight in the parking lot of the A&C Tavern.

He spotted two men hurry to get into a car and attempt to drive out. When he put his spotlight on the car he recognized the passenger as a jail warrant escapee. The deputy spoke with the 24-year-old passenger and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. The deputy also found $470 in small bills in the man’s wallet. At the jail, the suspect was removed from the car and on the seat was a small amount of marijuana. The deputy smelled marijuana on his breath and saw that his tongue was green. The suspect admitted to chewing up marijuana and swallowing it, but said it wasn’t much. During a strip search inside the jail, a corrections officer found a baggie with 19 grams of marijuana in the man’s anal cavity. He was booked into jail for escape from community custody, violation of the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act-marijuana and introducing contraband into the jail. He is currently serving his sentence.

Shopping for a purse to steal

A 59-year-old Alaska resident was shopping at Ross Dress for Less store at 5:12 p.m. May 8 when she discovered her purse was missing from her shopping cart.

She told the responding deputy she had $350 inside the purse along with two credit cards. An employee had spotted a man putting a purse under his arm as he walked out of the store. She followed the man out and wrote down the license plate of the vehicle. A deputy responded to the registered owner’s home on Elm Avenue near Island Lake. The deputy spoke with the three people who were in the car. They admitted to being at Ross, but denied having the missing purse. The deputy searched the trunk of the car, but didn’t find anything. One of the suspect’s names returned as having warrants. He was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree theft and for his warrants.
