Friends don’t let friends drive
stolen cars
A deputy watched a white BMW turn out of the East Bremerton Safeway parking lot onto State Highway 303 and travel northbound in southbound lanes of traffic at about 10 p.m. April 2. He stopped the car and the 16-year-old Poulsbo driver did not have a driver’s license.
The16-year-old boy and the 18-year-old Central Kitsap passenger said the car belonged to their 16-year-old friend’s parents. The deputy spoke with their friend via cell phone who said his parents were out of town. The deputy later spoke with the 43-year-old father who is the registered owner of the car. He said he was reporting the BMW stolen and that his son normally drove the vehicle. He added that he was familiar with the 16-year-old suspect and that he was “bad news” and did not have permission to drive the BMW.
The 16-year-old suspect said he got the keys from another friend who had gotten them from the car owner’s son. The suspect never told the boy he planned to drive the car.
The 16-year-old was arrested and booked into juvenile detention for first-degree taking a motor vehicle with the owner’s permission and first-degree driving with no valid driver’s license. He also was issued a traffic notice for driving on the wrong way on a one-way street. The 18-year-old passenger was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission. He was later released.
Didn’t heed
the first warning
A deputy responded to a call concerning a recklessly driven truck at Countryside Mobile Home Park on Old Military Road in East Bremerton at about 1 a.m. April 1. The 21-year-old South Kitsap driver was reported to be intoxicated and spinning the truck’s tires in someone’s yard.
A deputy administered a portable Breathalyzer test and the driver was below the legal limit, so he told the man to get a sober, licensed driver to drive him and his passenger home. The 20-year-old East Bremerton passenger also had been drinking. The deputies cleared the area.
A short time later, they were dispatched to a call concerning the same truck. It was again spinning its tires and driving recklessly through the Cross Roads Church parking lot. Deputies arrived and the 20-year-old passenger was now driving the vehicle.
The 20-year-old performed a Breathalyzer test and blew a .169. He told one of the deputies he was “sorry for wasting (his) time” and the 21-year-old man was teaching him to drive a stick shift.
The 20-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail for DUI and an outstanding warrant. His bail is set at $2,500.
What’s under
your coat?
A 21-year-old Edmonds man fled Kitsap Sports in Silverdale after he was caught stealing $600 worth of merchandise at 4:45 p.m. March 31. A store employee said the man had his own coat slung over his shoulder and had two new jackets and a pair of long johns under his coat.
The employee confronted the man at the exit and the man said nothing. The employee grabbed the man’s coat and the two jackets and long johns fell to the floor. The man took off running and he chased him.
The store employee caught up with the man at HoneyBaked Ham on Silverdale Way where a deputy met them. The man had nothing to say.
He was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree theft and an outstanding warrant. His bail is set at $7,500.
Almost a
Bistro brawl
A 22-year-old woman flagged down a deputy outside Old Town Bistro in Silverdale at 1:45 a.m. March 30. She said her life had been threatened by a man she did not know.
The woman told the deputy she was dancing with her friends and mother-in-law when the man pushed her and threatened her. The man told her, “I will have you handled! … I will kill you!” She said she’s never met him before and had no idea why he was so upset. He walked back over to his friends who began pointing at the woman and her friends. The woman’s mother-in-law asked the Old Town Bistro staff for help and the man and his friends were escorted out of the building.
A 23-year-old woman who was with the 27-year-old possible suspect said she accidently bumped into the woman who reported the threat on the dance floor and the woman was angry. She said the 27-year-old man did not push the woman or threaten anyone in Old Town Bistro.
No one was arrested.
