Bullets don’t phase pit bull

A sheriff’s deputy and paramedics responded to a dog bite complaint in the 12500 block of Seabeck Highway NW in Seabeck around 6:15 p.m. April 8.

Upon arrival, the deputy spoke to a 51-year-old woman who said she and her husband tried to break up a dog fight and got bitten. She said they’ve been keeping the pit bull for a couple years and it attacked their husky that day. She said they’ve never had a problem with the pit bull before that day’s incident.

The woman said she accidentally let both dogs out onto the patio at the same time and they began to fight. The pit bull latched onto the husky and the man and woman attempted to separate the two, getting bitten in the process. The woman said her husband struck the pit bull several times with a shovel, but the dog still would not let go. The man eventually shot the dog in the head twice and it released its grip on the husky.

The pit bull survived being shot.

The homeowners were transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for further evaluation and treatment.

While waiting for animal control to arrive, a man and woman showed up and said the homeowners called them to come pick up the pit bull’s body. The deputy told them the dog was not dead.

An animal control officer arrived and told the man and woman they could take the pit bull.
