Doing a little ‘peeping’
A 26-year-old Keyport woman called police Aug. 5 after finding a hole cut into her bedroom wall.
She suspected her neighbor whose shop is located on the other side of the wall. In preparing to move, the woman found the approximately 1-inch-by-1-inch hole behind a large mirror. The paint had been scratched off the back of the mirror allowing someone to see through it, but unnoticeable on the front of the mirror. Sheriff’s deputies also found a surveillance camera with tape on it that appeared it had been positioned in the hole in the wall and connected to a video recorder.
Deputies spoke with the shop renter who said her 42-year-old boyfriend uses the shop occasionally. The woman, who is nine months pregnant with the man’s third child, told them she was very embarrassed by what they had discovered. Deputies questioned the man who admitted he cut holes in the wall because he heard yelling and talking and wanted to “see what was going on.”
He was arrested and booked into jail for voyeurism and burglary and later released.
Racing leads
to disaster
Three USS John C. Stennis sailors were injured Aug. 5 when one vehicle T-boned the other on northbound State Highway 3 near Chico Way, closing the roadway for more than four hours.
A 19-year-old man and 21-year-old man, both stationed aboard the Stennis, were driving Honda Civics on northbound State Highway 3 shortly before 9 p.m. when the 21-year-old swerved to pass another vehicle, lost control and T-boned the 19-year-old man’s car, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The 19-year-old was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with a broken left leg and the female passenger, also from the Stennis, sustained back and leg pain. She was later released from Harrison.
The 21-year-old man was transported to Harrison with a broken wrist. The 20-year-old male passenger, also a Stennis sailor, was uninjured.
The two men appeared to be racing up State Highway 3, which caused the collision, according to WSP. The 21-year-old man was charged with vehicular assault. Both vehicles were totaled and the road was closed for more than four hours.
Making themselves at home
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vacant residence in the 1000 block of Gluds Pond Road in East Bremerton at 8 p.m. Aug. 7 for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway of the Kitsap County-owned house.
Deputies walked up to the residence, peered in a window and saw a 42-year-old Silverdale man and 41-year-old Bremerton woman engaged in sexual activity.
The deputies knocked on the window and the man and woman got dressed and opened the door.
The woman told a deputy she and the man had used the vacant house the past few days to spend time together. The deputy asked her why they break into the house when the man lives nearby and the woman said, “It’s complicated.”
The man allegedly detached the cable blocking the driveway to get to the house. He then forced his way into the garage through the barn doors before breaking a window to gain entry into the house. The man also had five loaded guns, tools, radios, clothing, binoculars, ammunition and a laptop computer inside his vehicle.
They were both arrested and booked into jail for second-degree burglary and later released.
Who misses
savings?
A sheriff’s deputy responded to the Silverdale Safeway shortly before noon Aug. 5 for an employee who embezzled more than $3,000 in the past six months.
A store security guard told the deputy he was reviewing the store’s void, refunds and coupon report when he noticed a fuel station clerk had a high amount of store coupons July 21. The coupons were “missed savings” transactions where a customer fails to get the discounts they earned with their Safeway Club Card.
The security guard said that rarely happens and usually amounts to a few dollars, but this day’s total for “missed savings” transactions was about $60.
He then watched video-taped footage of the 57-year-old Central Kitsap woman ringing up the transactions with no customers present and pocketing money from the cash register.
The woman told the deputy she worked for Safeway for four years and has stolen about $3,300 since January. She said she had a lot of medical bills and “thought that it would be an easy way (to pay for it).”
She was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree theft and later released.
Speedster stopped in his tracks
A sheriff’s deputy was traveling northbound on State Highway 3 between Loxie Eagans Boulevard and Kitsap Way at about 10:30 p.m. Aug. 4 when he saw a vehicle pass him at 100 mph.
He activated his lights and the vehicle continued to flee, quickly turning onto the Chico Way off-ramp. The vehicle continued to drive at 100 mph along Chico Way. The vehicle was reported as stolen out of Tacoma.
Deputies waited for the vehicle at the Chico Way Silverdale Way intersection and when the suspect vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection, it was struck in the driver’s side door by a pickup truck traveling on Silverdale Way.
The two people inside the pickup truck were uninjured.
The 22-year-old passenger in the stolen vehicle was detained, then released at the scene. He also was uninjured. The 35-year-old Bremerton man driving the stolen vehicle was not hurt and smelled of alcohol, according to a deputy. He later took a Breathalyzer test and blew a .084.
The Bremerton man was arrested and booked into jail for attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and an outstanding warrant. His bail is set at $50,000.
