A 41-year-old Mount Vernon woman was arrested June 19 for stealing a 32-inch television from Wal-Mart in East Bremerton.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to the East Bremerton store on State Highway 303 shortly before 10 p.m. to find the woman detained inside the store’s security office.

A security guard told the deputy he saw the woman in the electronics section and recognized her from previous shoplifting incidents at the store. He said she put the television, valued at $498, in a shopping cart and attempted to leave the store. He contacted her at the north entrance and escorted her back inside.

The woman told the deputy she has an abusive boyfriend who makes her steal things for him. She said she smoked three rocks of crack cocaine with him two hours before going to Wal-Mart. She would not give the deputy the man’s name because she was scared of him.

The woman said she took the television after confirming it was less than $500 because she thought it was not a felony if it was valued at less than $500.

The woman was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree theft. Her bail is set at $10,000.

A sheriff’s deputy was driving southbound on State Highway 303 near Fairgrounds Road in Bremerton around 1 a.m. June 16 when he saw a red 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle in front of him.

Thinking it was odd to see a classic car on the road at 1 a.m., he ran the license plate and the vehicle returned as stolen out of Mason County.

Two deputies followed the car for a while and stopped it near the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Arrowhead Drive in East Bremerton.

The 33-year-old Seattle man was taken into custody and refused to talk to the deputies.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found a scanner, Taser and keys. The car’s ignition was broken and a key was shoved in it but did not appear to come out, according to a deputy’s report.

The registered owner of the car drove up from Belfair and identified the Chevelle. He said the scanner, Taser and keys were not his, but some of his neighbors were recently burglarized and he would ask if the items belonged to them.

The Seattle man was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree theft. He was later released.

Drive-in date night gone wrong

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding a verbal argument between a man and woman in the 3700 block of West Preble Street in Navy Yard City around 12:30 a.m. June 21. The woman face’s was reportedly bloody and the man left in a car.

The 41-year-old woman told a deputy her 42-year-old boyfriend hit her in the face. She said they went to the Rodeo Drive-In Theatre near Bremerton National Airport and they started arguing while driving home. Her boyfriend hit her in the face and when she threatened to call police when they got home, he drove them around their neighborhood for a while, refusing to let her out of the car.

The man finally stopped the car at the house and the couple began arguing again, prompting a neighbor to call 911.

A deputy found the man, with blood on his pants, walking along Bremerton Boulevard and took him into custody.

The man was arrested and booked into jail for unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault. He was later released.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-car, non-injury collision in the intersection of NE Sylvan Way and Perry Avenue NE in East Bremerton at 6:45 p.m. June 19.

The driver of the SUV, a 43-year-old East Bremerton man, said the other driver involved already left the scene.

The man said the other driver was his 40-year-old male neighbor whom he has had a lot of problems with. He said he thinks his neighbor “rammed” him on purpose.

The man said he was stopped on Sylvan Way at the intersection, made eye contact with each driver at the intersection and then attempted to proceed through the intersection. He said he recognized his neighbor’s white pickup truck which then moved forward to go through the intersection. Both vehicles stopped to avoid a collision, then the SUV continued through the intersection and the pickup truck struck the SUV from behind.

While deputies remained on scene, a car drove past and the 43-year-old man said his neighbor was inside the vehicle.

A deputy stopped the vehicle and questioned the man. He said he was going to 7-11 to get gas for his pickup truck and when he made his right turn through the intersection, he ran into the back of the SUV. He said he didn’t know until after the collision the vehicle he hit belonged to his neighbor.

No arrest was made and a report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.
