Mail truck on the attack

An 18-year-old woman called the sheriff’s office at 11:40 a.m. May 10 to report that her car had been grazed by a runaway mail truck on Pine Road.

She said the only damage was a small black scuff mark on her white bumper. She had swerved to avoid being T-boned by the mail truck as it rolled past her. The responding deputy spoke with the 52-year-old mail truck driver who said he parked the vehicle on Michelle Lane, which had a slight slope to it. He said he walked to the front door of a residence and looked back to see the truck rolling down the hill. He ran after the vehicle, but was unable to stop it as it rolled into a small fence on Pine Road. The truck did minimal damage which consisted of a couple of broken boards.

En garde, nephew!

An 18-year-old resident of Bridle Vale Boulevard in Bremerton called the sheriff’s office at 2:10 p.m. May 8 after his uncle, who was upset because his nephew’s friends were at the house, threw a knife at him, challenging him to fight.

The 57-year-old uncle told deputies his nephew was not following house rules and he was upset. He said he tossed one of the knives to his nephew so they could “knife fight.”

He was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree assault (deadly weapon). He was later released.

Out-of-shape felon

on the run

A sheriff’s deputy was in front of Countryside Mobile Home Park on Old Military Road in Bremerton just before 5:30 a.m. May 6 when he spotted a man walking into the park who he recognized from a previous arrest.

The deputy ran the 20-year-old convicted felon’s name and discovered he had a warrant for his arrest for violating a domestic violence protection order. The deputy spotted the man and told him he wanted to speak with him. The suspect reluctantly walked toward him, but as the deputy attempted to arrest him, the man took off running. The deputy chased him up a hill and was able to catch the suspect as the 20-year-old had slowed down and was out of breath. He was arrested and booked into jail for his warrant and for obstructing. His bail is set at $5,000.

the Hondas

A 38-year-old resident of an apartment complex on Mount Cruiser Lane in Silverdale called the sheriff’s office at 9 a.m. April 30 to report his 1998 Honda Civic had been stolen.

His car had been found by the apartment maintenance man in the same complex, but on a different street. The car’s dashboard and airbags were missing as well as the electrical components from the driver’s door and dashboard. Another car, a 1993 Honda Civic, also was stolen from the complex and was found completely stripped of everything not metal. The seats, center console, rear panel, side panels and dashboard were all missing.
