An Albertson’s security officer contacted police at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 to report a theft involving an employee at the Silverdale grocery store. A deputy arrived and the security officer said the 22-year-old South Kitsap man, working alone and with others, would enter a coupon code into the cash register and receive cash back. The security officer said the man took several thousand dollars in coupon fraud money. The man said during the past four or five months he and up to five other people took part in the scheme. He said he personally pocketed about $2,200 and the others stole roughly $4,400. The man said he or the others would make a purchase and enter the coupon code, which would deduct $5 from the total. The security officer said he discovered the theft when he audited the system and it showed a high use of the coupon code. He also located video tapes showing the man making purchases and using the code. He was arrested and booked for first-degree theft and later released.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to the Silverdale Jack in the Box at 3:15 Thanksgiving Day for a man on a bicycle who was refusing to leave the drive-thru. The deputy arrived and an employee said the 24-year-old East Bremerton man first came to the restaurant and went to the lobby, which had closed an hour earlier. The man then rode up to the drive-thru window on his bicycle. The employee told him they are not allowed to serve people walking or riding bicycles in the drive-thru. The man refused to leave and the woman called police. The deputy approached the man who was holding a small video camera and talking to it. The deputy repeatedly asked him to leave and he still refused because he has “a right to chicken strips.” He was arrested and booked for second-degree criminal trespass. He was released on personal recognizance.
