A sheriff’s deputy responded to the main gate of Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor around 7:45 a.m. Dec. 20 for a man acting strangely.
When he arrived, several firefighters had the 28-year-old man strapped down to a gurney and were putting him inside an ambulance. A paramedic said the man had needle track marks on his arms and his irrational behavior appeared to be methamphetamine-induced.
The gate security guard told the deputy the man drove up to the gate. He noticed the man was acting strangely and asked him to pull to the side and military police were called to the scene. When they arrived, the man started “freaking out” and having convulsions.
The man told the military police his name was Kenneth Cole.
The deputy discovered the vehicle was registered to a Federal Way man and gave him a call. He said he recently sold the vehicle to a Federal Way man and gave the deputy the man’s real name.
The man is a registered sex offender out of King County and another deputy said he had a similar experience with the man at the Port Orchard Fred Meyer about a week ago.
He was transported to Harrison Medical Center and no arrest was made.
The rooster’s harem
A man called police around 3:15 p.m. Christmas Day to report that dogs attacked his chickens in the 12000 block of Old Frontier Road NW in Silverdale. The 31-year-old man also said he fired a shot at the dogs and may have hit one of them.
A sheriff’s deputy went to the man’s Silverdale home. The man said the two dogs belonged to his neighbors. As the deputy and man started to walk around the house to the chicken coop, a woman in a minivan stopped and said she was looking for her dogs. The woman said her two dogs escaped from her yard.
The deputy told her the dogs reportedly got into the man’s chicken coop and attacked the chickens. He also told her the man shot at them and possible struck one of them as they were attacking the chickens.
The man showed the deputy the chicken coop and said he heard the dogs in his yard and came out to find that the fencing had been forced open and the dogs were attacking the chickens. The chickens went inside the wooden coop, but the rooster attempted to protect them by attacking the dogs. The rooster was bitten several times and the man said he wasn’t sure if he would survive or not.
The man said this is the second time in recent months the dogs went after his chickens.
While the deputy was photographing the scene, the two dogs came running through the area. He captured one and the owner’s children grabbed the other. They did not appear to have been shot.
Backpack
of goodies
Deputies responded to a report of a domestic verbal dispute between a mother and her 29-year-old son in the 2300 block of NE Salty Shore Way in Poulsbo at 6:25 p.m. Dec. 26. The man reportedly left the residence on foot.
A deputy found the man walking northbound on South Keyport Road NE. When he saw the police car, the man ran up a long driveway. The deputy called out to him and asked if he could talk to him. The man said, “No, leave me alone!” and kept running.
Deputies attempted to chase the man, but lost sight of him. They followed his footprints and found a discarded backpack. The man’s mother called police and said he was back at her house.
Deputies found the man lying in bed. He said he ran because he was scared and didn’t want to go back to jail. The deputy drove back and picked up the backpack. He found a box for a lock pick with decoder plug, heavy-duty needle nose pliers, an energized Taser, metal detector, electronic listening device, black wig, 3-D video glasses, binoculars, gloves and a heavy-duty electrical cable with clamps hooked to a capacitor and two 9-volt batteries.
The man told the deputy he carries the tools and devices because he needs them. When asked about the lock pick, he said he likes playing with locks.
The man was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, obstructing a law enforcement officer and a dangerous weapons violation.
