A sheriff’s deputy responded to Costco in Silverdale at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 20 for a report of two shoplifters in custody.

A Costco security guard told the deputy he watched the 29-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, both of Bremerton, work together to steal two digital cameras. He said the man would point out what item to take, then she would cut the package open while the man stood lookout. The woman then put the cameras into her purse.

The woman denied having the items at first, but she eventually gave both of them up. Both cameras totaled about $450.

The woman was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree theft. She was released on personal recognizance. The man was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree theft and trafficking in stolen property. He also was later released.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to a theft in progress at Walgreens in Silverdale shortly after 9 a.m. Feb. 24. A man had run out of the store with prescription medication.

The Walgreens assistant manager said the 55-year-old Poulsbo man wrote a check for $530 at the pharmacy to pay for three medications he was prescribed. The check was run through a check verification system and it came back that the checking account did not have enough money in it to cover the cost of the medications. The manager asked the man if he had another way to pay for the items and the man grabbed the bag from the counter and ran out the front door.

A deputy caught the man driving northbound on Old Frontier Road at Trigger Avenue. He asked the man if he noticed the store manager was chasing him and he said he paid for the medication and left the store.

He was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree theft and violation of the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act and later released.
