A 35-year-old Central Kitsap man and his wife were in the middle of Chico Way in Central Kitsap at about 2:45 p.m. June 1 trying to save baby opossums when a vehicle blew by them, inciting a verbal argument between the couple and the driver.
The man and his wife were trying to save baby opossums that were hit by a vehicle and had a blue recycle bin in the road with them. Vehicles were slowing down and going around them until a Chevy Malibu showed no signs of slowing down. The man started waving his hands and a broom in the air, but the 21-year-old Central Kitsap driver ignored him and came within feet of hitting both the man and his wife. The car did hit the recycle bin, destroying it and continued southbound on Chico Way.
The male driver eventually came back and got in a verbal confrontation with the man. He told him he did not have to slow down because he was in the road, cursed at him and left on foot.
A deputy found the man walking southbound on Chico Way. He told the deputy someone hit his car with something and he was walking to see what it was. The man said he wanted compensation for the damage to the hood area and grill of his car. The man appeared to be extremely intoxicated, according to a police report.
Paint happy at Oly
A deputy responded to a call at Olympic High School in East Bremerton at 5:30 a.m. June 10. The head custodian found graffiti painted on the school building.
The custodian said someone shot the front of the school with about 70 blue paintballs and spray-painted graffiti on the back of the gym overnight. He said the video surveillance cameras were not working overnight because of a power outage.
On one section of the back wall of the gym it said “know him, love him, fear him!” Another section read, “can’t stop me!!!” The deputy also found a drawing of an Adidas shoe and more illegible graffiti on the back wall of the gym.
Pajama party on the road
Several people called police at 12:15 p.m. June 5 to report a woman walking on State Route 303 wearing a blue nightgown and slippers. They also reported that she went over a guardrail on the south edge of the highway between Old Military Road and the Brownsville Highway intersection.
Sheriff’s deputies and state patrol troopers responded to the area and called out a search and rescue team. Ten Kitsap County search and rescue volunteers and their dogs swept the area looking for the woman.
A search team asked a deputy to check out a house on Steel Creek Loop NE. The woman inside the home would not answer the door, but spoke with the deputy on the phone. She said she had been outside along SR 303 and went into the bushes looking for a lost wallet. She also said she was wearing a blue nightgown and slippers, but would not identify herself.
