A sheriff’s deputy was stopped at a stop sign on Erlands Point Road in Bremerton while facing northbound on Austin Drive at 10:40 p.m. Nov. 12 when he saw a small pickup truck drive past on Erlands Point Road with a green county street sign hanging out of the bed of the truck.
The deputy activated his lights and pulled behind the truck. The driver of the truck made an abrupt left turn into an apartment complex and continued to drive erratically, attempting to elude the deputy.
The 29-year-old Central Kitsap man then lost control of the truck, causing the street sign to fall out of the truck bed, and then drove the vehicle onto a sidewalk. He jumped out of the truck, ran into a stone wall, then attempted to climb the 20-foot wall. The 23-year-old CK man in the passenger seat stayed in the vehicle with his hands in the air.
He told the deputy he was at the 29-year-old man’s house and when they left, he saw the street sign and told his friend to stop because he was going to take it. The man pulled the sign out of the ground and threw it in the back of the truck. He told the deputy he didn’t know why he stole the sign and that he was drunk.
The 23-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail for third-degree theft. He was later released.
The 29-year-old man was arrested for first-degree driving with a suspended license and a couple of warrants. His bail is set at $25,000.
Not a search warrant fan
Sheriff’s detectives and deputies served a search warrant on a house in the 1000 block of Naval Avenue in Bremerton at 6:05 p.m. Nov. 12.
A deputy standing outside the residence observed a silver car pull into the alley facing the deputy’s patrol car. The deputy recognized the front passenger as a 24-year-old Suquamish resident who lived in the Naval Avenue home being searched.
The deputy told the man to take his hands out of his pocket and he refused. The man reached over and locked the car’s doors, then forced the car into reverse. He climbed into the driver’s seat, forcing the female driver against the door. The man drove off and the deputy pursued him in his patrol car.
During the pursuit, the deputy saw the car turn onto another street and the man jumped out of the car as it came to a stop. He ran behind an apartment building and across 11th Street.
Deputies found the man standing on a porch in the 2000 block of 11th Street talking on a cell phone. They took him into custody and detectives and deputies finished the search warrant on the man’s house.
The 24-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail for theft of a firearm, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, residential burglary and an outstanding warrant. His bail is set at $100,000.
Just having
a yard sale
Sheriff’s deputies, Bremerton Police officers and a Washington State Department of Corrections officer went to Rocky Point Mobile Home Park on Rocky Point Road in Bremerton at 9:50 a.m. Nov. 14 to take a wanted person into custody. The corrections officer said the man has been known to run from law enforcement and could be armed.
The deputies and officers found the 41-year-old South Kitsap man standing in the bed of a pickup truck in front of a trailer. They ordered him and everyone around him to the ground. He did not move, so a deputy deployed a Taser and the man fell into the truck bed.
The deputies and officers took the man into custody and found a loaded handgun had fallen from his person when he fell into the bed of the truck. Law enforcement checked the license plates on the pickup truck and it came back stolen.
A deputy searched a backpack lying next to the truck and found marijuana as well as several items with other people’s names on them. The bed of the truck contained numerous items including an air compressor, tools, shotgun shells and three sets of license plates.
A deputy asked a 33-year-old Belfair man what he was doing at the suspect’s house and he said he heard the man was “having a yard sale,” so he came over to see if he wanted to buy anything. The man said the suspect told him he was “leaving the area” and had some stuff he wanted to sell.
The 41-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and outstanding warrants. His bail is set at $50,500.
