Here’s a sampling of law-enforcement incident reports last week as documented by the Port Orchard Police:

Nov. 7:

Officers responded to reports of a large street fight near the intersection of Bay Street and Frederick Avenue. A caller also reported one of the suspects had brandished a hatchet while his posse departed the scene. When officers arrived, they detained one subject involved in the fight.

Another man at the scene was identified as a cook from a local bar. He told police that he and his bar manager had earlier asked a group of intoxicated males to move from the front of the bar and not enter the establishment. The cook then advised police that a second group of males arrived, and began mixing it up with the first group. The observant cook said he was unsure who started the fight. He and the bar manager then broke up the fight, prompting the two groups to move and settle the score on Sidney Parkway. Immediately afterward, one of the group’s members returned to their vehicle. The cook overhead one of the remaining males say that they were “getting the axe.”

A security guard from a nearby downtown bar then approached police to report one of the groups had driven to his establishment’s front entrance. When one member left the vehicle to enter the bar, the guard told the brawlers to “move along.” At that point, one of the males pulled out the hatchet inside the car. Their vehicle then sped south on Sidney. Their vehicle was described as an older light-blue Honda with a loud exhaust and extra lights on the front. It has not been located.

Officers detained the suspect, who stated he had been punched in the face during the fight but didn’t want to press charges.

An officer made contact with a loss-prevention associate at a Mile Hill Road thrift store, who stated a verbal argument had ensued over the sale of a Confederate flag. The complaining customer said he was offended that the store would sell such a “racist” item. In response, he was advised by management that he was no longer welcome in the store — for life.

While on patrol at 2:10 a.m., a Port Orchard Police officer drove down Sidney Avenue from Bay Street, heading toward the library. As the officer drove on, he observed a male near the library who was “actively urinating” on the side of a building. The officer turned into the parking lot and drove up behind the preoccupied male. With his cruiser’s bright headlights flooding the scene, the officer reported the urinator continued to look down at his groin, with legs set at a wide stance, and supplied a “liquid stream” running down the wall to the pavement between his feet.

The officer got out of his car and asked the male: “Really? You’re not even going to stop?” The man calmly replied: “I can’t. But I will in a second.”

He was described as being polite, cooperative and apologetic. He told the officer: “I have no excuse.”

He was issued a citation for urinating in public.
