POULSBO — The arrest of three Poulsbo area teens on vandalism charges this week has the Poulsbo Police Department searching for more victims.

The boys, all 17, confessed May 5 to egging cars, street signs and mailboxes during several trips over the last two weeks. In total, about 300 eggs — 25 dozen — were thrown in areas near North Kitsap High School and on Bainbridge Island.

“Not only had they been throwing eggs at parked cars, but moving cars on the road were targets, too,” Poulsbo Police School Resource Officer Nick Hoke said.

Since the boys’ arrests, PPD is asking any residents who have had their cars or other property damaged recently by thrown eggs to file a police report. All three have confessed and Hoke said the police can now help residents with any losses they incurred.

“I’m sure there are victims out there who are reluctant to file a report over an egg or two,” Hoke said. “But now that we have the suspects identified, we can get them restitution. Typically, there’s nothing we can do in such cases, but in this case, we can.”

Prior to Wednesday’s arrest, PPD had received several reports from citizens of egg-damaged cars. But capture was made possible by one victim, who managed to write down the license plate number of the car from which eggs were thrown. The vehicle was tracked down to a girlfriend of one of the boys, who told police the identity of the vandals.

When contacted by police, the boys admitted to several egging incidents. They also reported all of their targets were chosen at random and that they were just doing it for fun.

“There ought to be a law,” Hoke commented. “If a teen wants to buy a certain number dozen eggs, they shouldn’t be able to. Don’t sell them after midnight and if a kid wants to buy 15 dozen eggs, they should say no.”
