Politics needs to grow up

November 3 just couldn’t seem to come fast enough to North Kitsap. Once again, a few bad eggs spoiled what should have been and easily could have been a nice political salad that encompassed all views and was tossed to perfection.

Instead, these few acted like ill-behaved juveniles and, once again, a bad taste has been left in the collective mouth of this community. If anything, tactics seen this political go ‘round were worse then the mudslinging antics that marred the region in 2000.

Such deliberate acts should not be taken lightly by the community as the degenerative effects of dirty politics make a statement about what values we all hold — or don’t hold — dear. There is no justification for what transpired.

In the past month, graffiti has run rampant; campaign signs were torn from the ground, some were even burned; slanted and completely untrue or out of context literature was circulated, some of which was signed, some of which was not; childish names were called; and by and large Kitsap County took the form of a helpless bull’s eye for people of low character to toss their vitriolic darts at.

Oddly enough, few politicians spoke out against such brash behavior. This, too, needs to be addressed.

Once again, a few imbeciles have pushed their views a little too far and crossed the line, making a season that should bring out what’s best about democracy into a display of our worst traits. When will this cycle end?
