Pope, casino plans presented

The Greater Hansville Area Advisory Council held its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. After an update from Dennis Cziske on ferry fare changes, the council heard presentations from three speakers.

After an update from Dennis Cziske on ferry fare changes, the council heard presentations from three speakers. Jon Rose of Olympic Property Group spoke about his company’s plans for the property they own in North Kitsap. Jeromy Sullivan, chairman of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, spoke and showed architectural renderings of the tribe’s plans to build a larger casino and events venue at the site of the present Point No Point Casino. He was assisted by Leo Culloo and Barrett Schmanska. Eric Baker of Kitsap County Agricultural Planning spoke about the county’s progress in preserving local farmland in our rural areas.

Two new members were introduced: Laurie Wiegenstein, representing the Admiralty/Twin Spits Neighborhood, north Driftwood Key area, and Sterling Heights; and Carol Wood, who represents Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club. Val Tangen has returned after a leave, representing Foulweather Bluff and Skunk Bay.

The next meeting will be Nov. 8, 7 p.m. in the Greater Hansville Community Center.
