The tribe expects to inventory about 20 sites. According to a news release from the tribe, the sites may include the former Port Gamble mill, an abandoned waste dump, wetlands and beaches.
The tribe is looking for potential soil contamination and threats to human health. The work is funded by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields program.
Once the Brownfields sites are identified, they will be prioritized for possible cleanup.
An informational meeting will be held at 6 p.m. April 1 in the Kingston Community Center on State Route 104. (360) 337-5350.
