OLYMPIA – After Wednesday night’s highly anticipated Mega Millions drawing for $636 million — the second largest jackpot in United States history — 12 Washington residents, including one resident from Port Orchard, won the $5,000 prize.
The other winners included two residents each form Seattle and Marysville, Grandview, Kent, Pullman, Redmond, Puyallup, Custer, Marysville and Everett. Each player won the $5,000 prize by matching four numbers and the Mega Ball number correctly. The odds of winning this prize are 1 in 740,000.
When people in Washington State win playing the Mega Millions game, others in Washington benefit, too. Washington’s Lottery players spend their winnings in a variety of ways. Whether it’s a savings account for their children’s education, a new car, or a non-profit contribution, winners often spend their money locally, boosting Washington’s economy.
Additionally, proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing scholarships to college students statewide.
The next drawing will take place this Friday, Dec. 20, at 8 p.m. for $15 million. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, please visit www.walottery.com.
