PORT ORCHARD — Members of Soroptimist International of Port Orchard presented a check for $1,000 to the Kitsap Sexual Assault Center at the organization’s August meeting at the Clubhouse at McCormick Woods.
The club’s guest speaker at the meeting was Beverly Van Santford, child and family advocate for KSAC, who reported to Soroptimist members on her organization’s use of a previous Soroptimist International donation.
KSAC — established in 1975 — works with victims of sexual assault and with non-offending family members, using support from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program at Harrison Medical Center, the county prosecutor’s office, school districts in the county, Child Protective Services and the state Department of Social and Health Services.
The agency also works to provide therapy services and to assist victims navigating through the criminal justice system, Van Santford said.
She said services are provided at no cost to both current and past victims. The staff at KSAC sees an average of 1,800 victims annually. Sexual assault victims may contact KSAC through the 24-hour crisis line at 866-831-2050 or at 360-337-4950.
Van Santford said KSAC is seeking volunteers. Those interested can call her at 360-337-4950.
