A 41-year-old Port Orchard woman used pepper spray on two Bremerton police officers Monday after claiming she was kidnapped and about to be murdered.

Emergency dispatchers alerted police to a woman reporting she was being kidnapped from East Bremerton by people who had been following her for days and trying to kill her, according to Bremerton police reports. As police patrolled East Bremerton to find her, she kept calling, saying things such as, “They are going to shoot me right now.” Cencom determined the calls were coming from Burwell Street near the police station. An officer heard thumping inside a car parked near the station at about 1 a.m. and found the woman in the passenger seat of the car, who didn’t believe he was a police officer. Additional officers arrived to try to coax the woman out of the vehicle, but she took a can of pepper spray from her purse and sprayed two officers. A Taser was used on her twice, but it had no effect. She later got out of the car and resisted police before she was handcuffed.

The woman had a large knife and a bag of methamphetamine in her purse and her arrest history includes methamphetamine dealing, trafficking stolen property, residential burglary and theft. She was taken to Harrison Medical Center for a mental and physical evaluation. Charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, drug paraphernalia and meth and two charges of assaulting a police officer were forwarded to the Superior Court prosecutor.
