POULSBO — Santa may have completed his list, but the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce is still making its own for the city’s outstanding groups and individuals of 2006.

Those exemplary honorees will receive their just dues at the chamber’s annual awards banquet Feb. 9 at Kiana Lodge.

Nominations are being taken for Person of the Year, the beautification award, community builder award, Pearce Dressel Volunteer of the Year and organization award.

All nominations are due to the chamber office in Poulsbo Village by Jan. 10.

“We’re celebrating the people and organizations who have made a difference for the community in 2006,” said chamber executive director Stuart Leidner.

Leidner said the beautification award isn’t limited to new buildings and it can be given for landscaping or remodeling of an existing building.

The community builder award is given to those who are active in the area and work to bring people together to make a positive difference, he said.

“One of the things I’ve recognized about Poulsbo is there are a lot of people in the community involved in working to make it a better place,” he said.

Many times a certain individual or group stands out above the rest, but that doesn’t make the award committee’s decisions any easier, he said.

The committee makes its recommendations to the chamber’s board of directors, which has the final say, Leidner said.

Last year’s ceremonies honored the city’s Fish Park Steering committee for its work at the park, Rob Gelder, development director of Martha & Mary, for his work in the community, and Craig and Sally Kvam for their beautification efforts at the Poulsbo Compounding Pharmacy on Front Street.

Courtesy Auto Group owner John Hern was the 2005 Person of the Year and Dolph Jaeger was the recipient of the first Pearce Dressel Volunteer of the Year Award.

Dressel won the chamber’s Volunteer of the Year Award in 2004, and after his death in 2005, the award was renamed in his memory.

Anyone with questions about the criteria for the each award or wanting more information can call the chamber at (360) 779-4848.
