Poulsbo is moving forward to partner with Seattle-based civil engineering company Parametrix to finish the Complete Streets Plan through a contract of nearly $230,000.
The project includes streetscape planning and preliminary design with a focus on potential redevelopment or new development of streets and sidewalks; evaluation of parking demand and available facilities; and conceptual design of pedestrian, parking, transit and streetscape improvements, city documents say.
The goal is to provide safe, convenient travel and access for users of all ages and abilities, regardless of their mode of transportation. The final plan will identify specific projects, costs and prioritization for development and implementation.
Staff has been working with Parametrix to refine the Complete Streets Plan. The expected timeline is 16 months. The agenda item will be voted on at a future City Council meeting.
The city is also nearing final agreement for two grants in support of Raab Park’s Play for All Playground project, a community effort to build an inclusive and ADA-compliant playground in North Kitsap. One grant is from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund and the other from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program.
The second grant is contingent on getting the first grant. The monies were expected a year ago, but there have been delays at the federal level. The LWCF grant is for $370,000 and the WWRP grant for $379,824 for a total of $749,824.
The city’s parks department is also requesting the council to approve a $30,000 donation from the Poulsbo Rotary Club for a “We-Go-Round” (a type of merry-go-round) for the Play for All project. Both topics will be brought back at a future council meeting.
