Poulsbo man reportedly jumps from ferry, missing near Whidbey Island

Coast Guard crew members and local agencies are searching for an 81-year-old Poulsbo man who went overboard from a state ferry near Whidbey Island, late Aug. 18.

SEATTLE — Coast Guard crew members and local agencies are searching for an 81-year-old Poulsbo man who went overboard from a state ferry near Whidbey Island, late Aug. 18.

The Coast Guard reported that the man stood 5 feet 9 inches and was last seen wearing a T-shirt and light pants.

Security tapes showed a man fitting the above description going overboard the ferry Kennewick at 9:22 p.m., eight minutes after departure from Whidbey Island, the Coast Guard reported.

Watch standers at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received the report from the ferry’s security personnel at 9:56 p.m., who found the missing person’s vehicle abandoned aboard the ferry with his wallet and a suicide note inside, the Coast Guard reported.

Involved in the search are:

— Coast Guard Cutter Osprey crewmembers.
— A Coast Guard Station Port Angeles boat crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium.
— A Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles air crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter.
— Naval Air Station Whidbey Island personnel.
— East Jefferson County Fire Guardian 16 crew.
