POULSBO — Gary R. Zazueta, 48, was charged with attempting to elude a police vehicle after being pulled over on suspicion of a DUI July 29.
A Poulsbo police officer on southbound State Route 305 saw a mo-ped run a red light and pulled it over. Running the plates through the system, the officer found Zazueta was driving on a suspended license. According to the report, the officer smelled alcohol on Zazueta’s breath and asked him to do field sobriety tests. While the officer was getting the Breathalyzer, Zazueta got back on his bike and “took off.”
The officer followed Zazueta on Lincoln, Caldart and onto Hostmark, where the mo-ped swerved and fell over. Zazueta got up and ran into the trees. Another officer arrived and helped apprehend Zazueta. When processed for the DUI, Zazueta’s blood alcohol content was .141 and .138, police reported.
He was booked into Kitsap County Jail on $35,000 bail.
