POULSBO — The Port of Poulsbo officially opened the port manager’s position for applications Monday, and has already received a handful of resumes.
Port Manager Kirk Stickels announced his retirement Jan. 3; he and his wife will be moving to New Zealand at the end of February. Stickels has been Poulsbo’s port manager since 2005.
The Board of Commissioners appointed Brad Miller, harbormaster, as interim port manager until a permanent port manager is hired. Carol Tripp, port accountant, said the port received around 85 applications when the position was last open. Many of the applicants this year live in Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island.
The port manager works full time, “at the pleasure of the Board of Commissioners,” and “performs technical and professional work in the field as well as in an office environment.”

Highlights of what the port is looking for:
— Current First Aid and CPR certification card.
— Two-year degree or minimum four years experience working as a supervisor.
— Minimum four years working as a supervisor in a working marine environment.
— Non-smoker and drug-free.
— Knowledge of the Port of Poulsbo and its relationships within Liberty Bay and Kitsap County.
— Knowledge of federal, state and local laws; rules and regulations; insurance; and knowledge of grant writing.
— Familiar with DNR lease arrangements and derelict vessel disposal program.
— Familiar with computer and office equipment.
— Communicate effectively with public and customer concerns and questions even in stressful situations. — Ability to participate in annual budget preparations.
The job posting states the salary range is between $37,430 and $61,521. Stickels currently makes $61,549 a year.
