OLYMPIA — A public ceremony to observe National POW/MIA Recognition Day is set Friday, Sept. 20, at the POW/MIA Memorial on the Capitol Campus, beginning at 10 a.m.

The event will honor the commitment and the sacrifices made by this nation’s Prisoners of War and those who are still Missing in Action (MIA), as well as their families.

In addition, the POW/MIA Living Memorial and Bracelet Repository at the Washington Memorial Cemetery in SeaTac will observe the day with a public ceremony at 3 p.m. to open tje Repository to place POW/MIA bracelets of someone accounted for or bracelets that are broken.

The Repository will then be sealed again until next year. The POW/MIA bracelets originated in 1969 as a way to bring attention to the American military prisoners and those listed as missing in Vietnam.
