PSNS & IMF earn Secretary of the Navy energy award

From KITSAP NEWS Reports

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF) in Bremerton was recently named the 2008 Secretary of the Navy Energy and Water Management platinum award winner in the industrial category.

A platinum level award indicates the command has been recognized for its outstanding energy programs and project execution, according to a news release. The award was based on the fiscal year 2007 accomplishments of the command.

As a platinum award winner, PSNS & IMF will be awarded $35,000, which can be used to improve the quality of life, encourage further energy conservation or be used as part of operation and maintenance funds.

“This award is another clear recognition that the entire command cares deeply about the environment and our community and is energized to champion innovative ways to reduce energy consumption,” Capt. Mark R. Whitney, PSNS & IMF commander, stated in a news release. “This truly does make a difference, but we are not done — there is more to do.”

PSNS & IMF will be recognized at an award ceremony Oct. 21 at the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.
