A 25-year-old Poulsbo woman accused of stealing a purse from the restroom of a South Kitsap bar told deputies Sunday she didn’t steal the purse, but she didn’t want to “rat out” the real thief.

Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Voodoo Lounge, 1750 Village Lane SE Sunday at 1:30 a.m. after receiving word of a fight between females, reports said.

The victim, a 21-year-old woman from Fort Lewis, said she was using the restroom when her purse was snatched from under the stall.

Security guards noticed the suspect leaving the bar with the stolen purse concealed in a larger purse. Deputies found the suspect in a vehicle with the purse. Along with the stolen property, deputies found almost a gram of methamphetamine on the woman.

The woman denied stealing the purse, then changed her story, saying she helped another woman steal the purse, which contained $160 in cash.

“I asked (the suspect) who the other female she assisted was, (the suspect) stated ‘I don`t want to rat her out.'”

The woman was booked into the Kitsap County jail for investigation of second-degree possession of stolen property and possession of a methamphetamine.
