Q: Is Harrison owned by Franciscan Health Services?

A: Harrison is affiliated with Franciscan Health System, and operates as a separate, secular, nonprofit community medical center. Franciscan has committed to investing in Harrison’s growth and development, including facilities and information technology, to benefit both clinical quality and patient care.

Q: Is Harrison supported by a taxpayer-supported hospital district?

A: No. Kitsap County does not have a public hospital taxing district. Harrison is a private nonprofit medical center, and is supported by charges for services and through donations from the Harrison Medical Center Foundation. Harrison does have a contract for services in Belfair with the Mason County Public Hospital District No. 2.

Q: According to Harrison’s website, Harrison has a total of 2,300 staff members and a medical staff of 415. Is that for all sites combined?

A: Harrison’s total full- and part-time staff — including those at Harrison Bremerton, Harrison Silverdale, and Harrison HealthPartners clinics — is about 2,300. Harrison has a medical staff of more than 580 — 122 employed and 466 credentialed.

Q: How many part-time and full-time employees at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton?

A: 511 part-time, 765 full-time.

Q: How many part-time and full-time employees at Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale?

A: 100 full-time, 245 part-time. It’s important to note that they are all employees of Harrison Medical Center, not Harrison Silverdale or Harrison Bremerton.

Q: How many employees are represented by unions?

A: About 1,500 employees are represented by unions at Harrison Medical Center.

Q: How many unions represent Harrison employees?

A: Two unions represent Harrison employees in four separate bargaining agreements. UFCW Local 21 represents our registered nursing, dietary and service, and the Professional Technical groups. Teamsters No. 589 represents our operating engineers group.

Q: How many patients per month or year on average are seen at Harrison Medical Center?

A: Harrison is licensed for 297 beds, with 253 of them at Bremerton, 44 at Silverdale. I don’t have a quick access on the breakdown of Bremerton vs. Silverdale, but that number would be “off” for this year, with the opening of The Orthopaedic Center at Silverdale. I will have a better handle on that figure sometime around late July. However, on average, [we have] just over 13,500 admissions to Harrison Medical Center annually, resulting in approximately 55,000 patient days, and with average length-of-stay [of] 4.07 days. We serve more than 77,500 patients annually in our high-tech Bremerton and Silverdale ERs, where our wait times are among the lowest in the state.
