SILVERDALE — A 14-year-old Central Kitsap boy appeared in Kitsap County Juvenile Court April 1 on a charge of felony harassment (threat to kill) following a March 31 investigation at Ridgetop Middle School.
Sheriff’s patrol deputies responded early in the afternoon after school administrators became aware of a plan allegedly concocted by the student. The plan allegedly involved threats to kill others at the school using firearms.
Two RHS students became aware of the threats through second-hand conversation and reported them to a faculty member. Students had been released from classes when the investigation was initiated.
Detectives identified the youth as the suspect and established probable cause for his arrest. The boy was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. and booked into Kitsap County Youth Services Center.
As a precautionary measure, sheriff’s patrol deputies maintained a uniformed presence at the school that day.
The court ordered the youth released without bail, on personal recognizance, into the custody of his guardian on conditions of house arrest. The suspect’s next court appearance was scheduled for April 7.
Central Kitsap School District posted the following message regarding the threat:
“Ridgetop Middle School students reported overhearing a conversation about students threatening the school. This afternoon, Thursday, March 31, the students told school leaders. They immediately called law enforcement.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
We believe students and staff are safe. To give students, families and staff peace of mind, law enforcement will be on campus Friday.
We take all threats seriously to ensure student and staff safety. As always, if your child has any additional information to share, please contact Kitsap County Sheriff’s detectives at 360-337-7111.”
