SILVERDALE — Kitsap County’s Department of Public Works began improvements at the intersection of NW Myhre Road and Silverdale Way NW. The project installs intersection and channelization improvements designed to alleviate congestion and improve efficiency in moving the growing level of traffic in that corridor.
The work is being performed during night hours, closing the intersection to traffic between 7:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The project schedule calls for completion by mid-December. While traffic will be seriously impacted during that work period, the public works department says it is confident the improvements to traffic flow will be significant.
The project builds out an 11-foot wide right-turn lane on NW Myhre Road for traffic turning north onto Silverdale Way NW. The project also reconstructs the pedestrian curb ramps to meet the current ADA standards and installs raised pedestrian islands adjacent to the new turn lane.
The project also includes upgrades to the traffic signal system at the intersection and new lighting along NW Myhre Road. Below ground, the project will see additional improvements to the stormwater collection and conveyance system. Two new tree-box biofiltration units will also improve water quality.
Once the road and stormwater improvements are complete, the intersection will be planed, re-paved and re-striped to smooth the street surface. Lakeside Industries is the contractor on the project, which is fully funded through the Kitsap County Road Fund.
