The state Department of Transportation issued a road update Aug. 26 alerting commuters of upcoming roadwork taking place in South Kitsap County and at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Here is a summary of their report:
Tacoma Narrows Bridge delays coming
Drivers who use the State Route 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge are encouraged to plan ahead for weekend and weeknight delays in late August and early September. During the weekend and Sept. 9 – 12, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will reduce SR 16 to two lanes in each direction at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge for bridge paving.

Access between SR 16 and SR 166 reopens near Port Orchard
Work continues on this project. Within the next few weeks crews will shift both lanes of eastbound SR 16 into the highway median.
South Kitsap
NEW – Roadwork in South Kitsap
Flaggers will direct motorists through the work areas. Expect delays of up to 5 minutes in the immediate vicinity of the work.

E Collins Road (at Woods Road E and Mountain View Road E Intersections)
Tuesday
E Chester Road (at Woods Road E and California Avenue E Intersections)
Wednesday
SE Lund Avenue (at Jackson Ave SE and Madrona Drive SE Intersections)
Thursday
Bethel Burley Road SE (at SE Pine Road and SE Burley Ollala Road Intersections)
ONGOING – E Main Street / E Madrone Avenue
(from the intersection of Beach Drive E and Spring Street E to Alaska Avenue)
This road will be closed through Sept. 16 for phase 3 of a continuing stormwater project there. Closures are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic will be detoured around the work. Plan for significant delays. Use alternate routes when possible to avoid delays.
