Roald was surrounded by family during his last hours.

He was born on Aug. 26, 1929 at the family farm in Breidalblik, just outside of Poulsbo, to George and Lillie (Larsen) Halvorson. He attended North Kitsap High School, class of 1947. He enlisted in the Army October 1946 shortly after his junior year in high school and finished his GED upon being discharged from the Army in February 1948. In the Army, he was a private first class and had received the Army of Occupation Medal Japan and World War II Victory Medal.

He was a Master Gardener, scoutmaster, Freemason and a VFW member. He enjoyed gardening, sports, family, grandkids, great-grandkids, lutefisk, pickled herring and anything sweet, and spending time in Arizona.

His wife, Ardeth (Lysen) Halvorson, preceded him in death in 1988.

Roald is survived by his son, Jim (Jean) Halvorson of Belfair; daughters, Linda (John) Doehne of Kingston and Debbie (Larry) Goodwin of Suquamish; sister, Lois Nottingham of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; seven grandkids, Jesse, Sonya, Jennifer, Jeremiah, Kyle, Tammy, and Troy; six great-grandkids, Chase, Austin, Katie, Kenny, Brody and Harley; niece and nephews, Lou Ann, Kevin, Ty, Ben and their families.

Memorial service Saturday, Jan. 15, 1 p.m. at Suquamish United Church of Christ, Remembrances may be made to Alliance for Lupus Research (www.lupusresearch.org) or Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (www.foodallergy.org).
