ROAMIN’ AROUND

Tuning things up at Mike Wallace

Did a little more roamin’ this week, it feels so good to be more mobile again.

Went to a Revitalization Association meeting Monday and was so pleased to hear the report from our Steamboat weekend. The Steamboaters were so happy to be at Kingston. Every place they went, you kept hearing “You are so friendly.” That seems to be the norm from visitors to our “Little City by the Sea,” which makes my heart happy. Think the Virginia V could still be here giving rides. The line was still long and the boat was full on the last run.

The skipper was really enthused with everything Kingston and wants to come back. So Karen Ross is already looking ahead to the future for more visits. The smaller boats want to come back, too. Their schedule plans for some place different each year for their rendezvous, but they will be back.

Chair of North Kitsap Fire and Rescue Board of Fire Commissioners Gillian Gregory did the christening of our new fire boat. Now we know you don’t just whack the bow with the champagne bottle, you swing the bottle over your head and down. If I ever get to do the honors for some important vessel, I’d know how.

We had another very successful “Tunes on Tuesday” at our Mike Wallace Marina Park. I’m amazed at the instruments now that can be made to sound like many others. Michael Powers had a German-made guitar that had a whole woodwind section in it. There’s just one more “Tunes” next Tuesday. It’s Buck and Elizabeth and is geared to family and children, I’ve seem them before and even the “big” kids enjoy.

The Hoefer’s, Colleel and Jamie always show up with interesting looking food containers, wonder what goodies they contain. Chief Paul Nichol and Michelle were there again with their grandson and Ron Muell and Helen Hume held their regular spot in the middle of the field, they have some interesting picnicky things, too. I always forget to bring my nibblies, darn! Love to see OUR park being so well used.

Almost the end of the program, a lady said, “Do you know your lights are on?” (That was two hours into the show). Right, the battery was dead!

Several people stopped, no one had battery cables. So, I decided to use the AAA button on my cell phone. Wow, what service. It was getting dusk and chilly, everyone had left, except two young men and a cute blonde girl. The young lady left and I heard, “Hey, I know that lady!” and Khris Watson came over to see why I was alone in the park in the dark. When I related my sad problem, he told his buddy Tony Moore to bring his truck and they’d have me underway in a minute. Just then the AAA truck came. It had all been less than half an hour — Poor Khris kept apologizing because they hadn’t seen me sooner. Now, why would two handsome young men see a little ol’ gray haired lady when they had a cute young blonde to talk to? But, thanks guys, anyway.

This column seems to be geared to our park, our Blue Grass Festival is scheduled for Sept.14 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Now, all we need is help from you all. Melanie Pruiett and her husband Sam have agreed to chair this fun event one more time. She has four bands lined up to come but we will need to raise at least $3,000 to get this underway. Would love to see some of our businesses hop on the sponsor band wagon, they benefit from the influx of people who come to listen. No amount is too small to help us continue to have this annual event, so contact the Pruiett’s at 297-7866 or the Revitalization Assoc. (Karen Ross) at J.L. Scott 297-7500, and say “I’ll Help!”

Have decided if I can’t be a good example, then I’ll just have to be a horrible warning!
