State Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna visited Kitsap County Wednesday which included a tour of Clear Creak Trail in Silverdale by Clear Creak Trail Task Force members. While meeting with the task force, McKenna was provided with a history of the trail and the current stage of development.
Tex Lewis, task force co-chair, said one of the goals is to provide a source for students to study a natural eco-system from stream head to salt water as well as providing a unique environment for families and visitors to enjoy. They have plans to extend the trail.
“I’m excited to see a grassroots effort like this to bring such an asset to community,” McKenna said. He added that as a youth in Boy Scouts where he helped build trails, he values the contributions that trails can make to communities.
McKenna’s Kitsap visit was coordinated by Steve Sego of Port Orchard, who is a graduate of Central Kitsap High School. Sego and KcKenna have known each other since attending college together.
In addition to the Silverdale trail, McKenna visited Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor where he toured the trident class submarine, USS Alabama, met with Silverdale realtors and attended meetings and a fundraiser dinner in Port Orchard.
