Chances are you will find a Rotarian involved in most major projects in Kingston. Kingston Rotarians play a lead role in some of Kingston’s largest projects, living up to their creed, “Service Above Self.”
The Village Green Foundation has quite a few Rotarians on its board: Clint Boxman, Don Hutchins, Jon Sole, Nick Jewett and me. Village Green Metropolitan Park Commissioner Bobbie Moore joins them. This group has a commitment to raise funds to build a new community center and library at Village Green Park.
Kingston Rotarian Dan Martin is president of the Kingston Chamber of Commerce for 2013. Other Chamber board members are Jerry Tellinghuisen of Kingston CPA and Beth Brewster, owner of Kingston Adventures. Although Beth is busy training for her Ultraman Event in Hawaii, she volunteered to head the Children’s Scavenger Hunt, a chamber event slated for Dec. 21 at the Port of Kingston.
Jerry serves as treasurer of the Kingston Chamber.
Sally Christy and I are both part of the Events Committee of the Chamber. Sally has been in charge of the Kingston Country Christmas for the past several years and has been working hard with her committee to hold another great Country Christmas on Nov. 30.
I am working with Susan Rodgers to schedule the Rootin-Tootin Chili Feed and Ugly Sweater Contest on Dec. 7, followed by caroling among the light sculptures at Mike Wallace Park.
Then there is Rotarian Walt Elliott, who not only serves as port commissioner but also volunteers his time with the Parks and Trails Committee.
Rotarian Naomi Maasberg is head of Kingston Rotary’s Community Service Com-mittee. Naomi participates in the Kingston community through her Stillwaters Environmental Center and, for many years, as a member of the Kingston Community Advisory Council. If you have a worthy project that you would like Rotary to help fund, email Naomi: naomi@stillwatersenvironmentalcenter.org.
Rotarians Jessica Larson and Jennifer Carrier are in contact with Kingston High School students through Rotary’s Interact Club and also serve on the youth committee that is in charge of exchange programs and Rotary scholarships.
If you have been to a blood drive lately, then you most likely have met Kingston Rotarian Jon Sole. Jon has headed the Kingston Rotary blood drive for the past five years. He happily reports that the move to Kingston Community Church on Highway 104 has brought in many new donors.
There is a new group in town, studying ways in which they can help the homeless of our area. You’ll find Rotarians Fredrick Branchflower, Gene Medina and Bobbie Moore involved in this group.
I may have left out several other worthy groups and projects that Rotarians take part in. Rest assured, once a Rotarian spearheads a project, the rest of the club joins in to offer support.
If you would like to join this service-minded group, you are welcome to attend one of our weekly meetings. Join the Kingston Rotary Club for lunch on Wednesday at noon to learn more about Rotary and its many opportunities for service.
Rotarians gather at 11:45 a.m. at the North Kitsap Fire & Rescue Station 81, 26642 Miller Bay Road in Kingston for their meetings.
Contact Fredrick Branchflower at 425-445-9975 for directions and questions. We’d love to have you join us.
