The Bremerton Board of Education’s newest director was sworn in Dec. 12 during the last board meeting for the year.

District four director Alyson Rotter repeated her oath as read by Dr. Aaron Leavell,superintendent. Director Carolynn Perkins was also sworn into her number five position by Leavell. Both Rotter and Perkins’ terms expire in 2017.

Perkins, who served as board president, also turned over her gavel. Following the turn over, the board reorganized the board of directors during a nomination process to select a new president, vice president and auditor.

Director Scott Rahm was selected to serve as the president, and director David Rubie was selected as vice-president. Both will serve one-year terms, according to district policy.

Ken Watkins, will serve as the board auditor.

“It’s been a wonderful start to the school year,” said Rahm. “I may have to be the voice for all of us at times, but it feels good that I’m surrounded by a good group of people here.”

Perkins added that she believes Rahm will do a fine job in his new position.

“He’s been one that has asked questions ­— always really good questions ­— and is very knowledgable,” she said. “I know he’ll do a wonderful job.”

Rahm said he’s looking forward to teamwork.

“My goal is to keep the teamwork going,” he said. “To really support the hard work that everyone does and really just govern the operations and not manage.”

Rotter spoke of her excitement at the end of the public meeting.

“I’m glad that it’s finally here. It’s a long process,” she said of campaigning. “It’s a nice way to end the year. I’m just glad to be a part of the team.”

The next board meeting will be Jan. 2 at 5 p.m. in the board room at 134 Marion Ave. N. in Bremerton.
