Sale to benefit Women Build.
Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County raises money in a variety of ways, but a rummage sale is something new for the organization.
“This is the first time we as a Habitat group did our own rummage sale,” said Karen Carlson, Habitat board of directors member and Women Build committee chair.
Habitat for Humanity is hosting its first-ever rummage sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 in the Reid Real Estate parking lot on the corner of Silverdale Way and Bucklin Hill Road in Silverdale.
Carlson said Reid Real Estate, Oxford Suites and Spiro’s Pizza & Pasta generously donated the space for Habitat’s rummage sale.
“Reid and Oxford, they’ve been awesome by supporting this,” she said.
Money raised at the Habitat rummage sale will benefit the Kitsap chapter’s Women Build program. One of the houses in Cornerstone Place, the 11-home development Habitat is constructing in East Bremerton, is a designated Women Build residence and will be built by all women.
Money raised at the rummage sale will go toward construction on the Women Build house and Carlson said the ladies are eager to get started.
“We’d love to make $5,000,” she said, adding the money will help start the home’s foundation.
People may donate items to be sold at the rummage sale between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. the morning of the sale. Accepted items include household goods, toys, tools, clothing, exercise equipment and home furnishings. No appliances will be accepted for the sale.
