BREMERTON — Naval Base Kitsap and Bangor will hold shelter-in-place drills Jan. 14 and 21.

The drills may involve activity visible or audible to the public, and will last about 15 minutes starting 10 a.m. People in the area may hear the announcement beginning and ending the drill via an audible alert system called Giant Voice, used during exercises and emergencies.

Shelter in place is a short-term safety procedure that will help protect personnel by taking shelter inside if hazardous materials are released into the atmosphere.

The Navy routinely conducts securing and training exercises to ensure readiness and verify response procedures. For more information, contact the public affairs office at 360-627-4030 or pao.nbk.cnrnw@navy.mil.
