POULSBO — Construction is expected to start on Oct. 14 on replacement of the eastern-most boat ramp at Salsbury Point County Park, north of Poulsbo.
During the six-week construction period, the ramp will be closed for public use. Two western-most ramps will remain open for recreational boating use.
Kitsap County Parks received a Washington State Recreation Conservation Office grant to replace the failed boat ramp, county Public Information Officer Doug Bear reported. The new boat ramp will fit within the footprint of the existing ramp and will be constructed of flat, interlocking concrete panels, replacing the existing crowned asphalt ramp. This design will make it easier to launch recreational boats, Bear reported.
In addition, new rip-rap will be placed around the ramp, and a stormwater pipe will be replaced. The surrounding adjacent underwater area will be planted with eelgrass to provide a better environment for salmon.
Because of high tides, some construction will need to occur at night when tides are lower. Reid-Middleton is the engineer of record on the project. A construction contract of $107,165 has been awarded to Sealevel Bulkhead Builders of Kingston.
The 6.5-acre park has saltwater beach access, a public boat launch, restrooms, picnic shelter, playground, picnic areas and parking lot. Each year, a dock is installed in April and removed in October. The actual dates of installation and removal are determined by the weather and the tides.
