School board expected to elect new president Oct. 23

The four remaining members of the North Kitsap School Board are expected to elect a new board president Oct. 23.

POULSBO — The four remaining members of the North Kitsap School Board are expected to elect a new board president Oct. 23.

The election is on the agenda for the regular board meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. A study session beginning at 5:15 p.m. precedes the regular meeting.

The board was divided on who should be the next president after Dan Weedin resigned.

The board went to roll-call vote Oct. 9, when Scott Henden and Cindy Webster-Martinson were both nominated. Bill Webb and Henden voted for Henden to be president. Beth Worthington and Webster-Martinson voted for Webster-Martinson. Henden is currently the vice president of the school board.

The last time the presidency was vacated by resignation, the vice president became the president. That was in 2012, when Kathleen Dassel resigned and Weedin, vice president at the time, ascended to the presidency.

During the first meeting in 2013, the board reelected Weedin as president.

The board remains down one member. Applications to fill the District 2 position are due by noon, Nov. 3.
