earn scholarships

Jacklene Salwei a Poulsbo native, has received an Altru Alliance scholarship from the University of North Dakota College of Nursing for the 2008-09 school year. Salwei, who plans to graduate in May 2010, will be formally recognized at the College of Nursing homecoming event this fall.

The Altru Alliance Scholarship was initiated in 2000 by the Altru Health System Alliance.

Kirk M. MacLearnsberry will receive a $1,000 Smith, Melvin and Ruth Scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year at Washington State University.

MacLearnsberry was awarded outstanding sophomore in chemical engineering for the 2006-07 academic year and previously received an O.H. and Ruth Verne Reaugh Scholarship.

He also has an associate’s degree from Olympic College.MacLearnsberry plans to graduate from WSU in May 2009 with a degree in chemical engineering.

He is the son of Kadi and Bruce MacLearnsberry of Poulsbo.

Erin Patton of Hansville has been awarded a $1,000 Bonhomme Scholarship from the University of Montana. Patton is a sophomore majoring in anthropology.

She is a 2005 graduate of North Kitsap High School and the daughter of Bernard and Jeannette Patton of Hansville.

The Bonhomme Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 by the estate of Peter and Elvi Bonhomme of Big Timber, Mont.
