students honored at Whitworth
commencement
On May 18 two North Enders joined Whitworth’s largest graduating class, participating in the university’s 118th commencement.
Jeannie Sibbett of Indianola was awarded a bachelor of arts in theatre, magne cum laude, and Erin Bernard of Poulsbo was awarded a bachelor of arts in business management.
NKSD improves attendance calling
The school district is launching a new and more personalized attendance calling system. Parents will get an evening computer-generated telephone call that specifies which school is calling, the name of the child and for which periods a student was absent. This new computer digitized system solves the problems parents had with the previous system which only said “your child was absent.” Parents with more than one child had no way of knowing which child was absent and for how long. The new message system will also include a telephone number for parents to call back about the absence.
In addition, attendance call times in the evening will vary from day to day, to help prevent students from intercepting messages intended for parents. The attendance system is for grades six through 12 only.
Impact Aid
Surveys sent
home this week
All students should’ve brought home the 2008-09 Federal Impact Aid Survey this week. Parents are asked to fill out and return a form for each child attending school. The confidential surveys provide the district with information about parent employment and residency, which helps schools quality for additional federal funding. For questions or additional information, call (360) 779-8703.
