Kingston seniors host rummage sale
Kingston High School seniors will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingston IGA lower parking lot. Krispy Kreme donuts will also be sold. Donations to the rummage sale can be made today, March 12, in the parking lot from 3-6 p.m. Money raised from the sale will benefit the Kingston High Grad Night event. Grad Night is a drug- and alcohol-free celebration for graduating seniors.
North Kitsap choir hosts “An Evening of Jazz”
North Kitsap High School choir students will host “An Evening of Jazz” at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo. The evening will feature a silent auction, dessert and performances by the choir. Admission is $15 or $10 for students with a valid ASB card. Tickets are available at Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo, from North Kitsap choir students, at the school or by emailing scauter@nkschools.org. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. The highlight of this year’s class is a trip to New York City, where the choir will perform at Carnegie Hall on Easter.
Teacher of the Year nominations sought
The North Kitsap Teacher of the Year Foundation is seeking nominations for its 2009-10 teachers of the year. The foundation recognizes two teachers every year — one at the elementary and middle school level and one at the high school level.
To qualify, teachers must work at a public or accredited private school located within the boundaries of the North Kitsap School District. Selection criteria include the teacher’s command of their subject, professionalism, enthusiasm and efforts to include the community in the educational process.

Arts society offers scholarships
Peninsula Music and Arts Society is offering scholarships to graduating seniors from North Kitsap and Kingston high schools, as well as Spectrum Community School, who plan to continue their education in music, art, drama or writing at a recognized college or university. Students should contact their school counselors for application forms.
Foundation announces scholarships
The Kitsap Community Foundation last week announced three scholarships available through local funds.
The Charles and Dorothy Martell Family Music Scholarship is given to a graduating senior from Kitsap high schools. Special consideration will be given to members of the Kitsap Youth Symphony and students who want to continue their music education. The Fred and Marvel Hill Scholarship is given to a graduating senior from the North Kitsap School District. The Marie A. Barker Teaching Scholarship is given to a student accepted into Western Washington University’s Woodring School of Education program.
