POULSBO — If the students of Elizabeth Girouard’s full-day kindergarten class designed a robot there’s a good chance it would have household responsibilities.

When Pacific Science Center employee Luke Grange posed the question to the Pearson Elementary class Feb. 18, four of the five students who answered preferred robots that would help with chores or work.

“Clean up my room,” one student answered.

Another student would like a robot to clean an entire house; a robot that could bake a cake was also proposed. And, of course, a robot that could complete homework.

The discussion about robots preceded a hands-on robotics lesson by Grange. Students learned how to input commands into small robots, which moved and made noise based on the commands.

The robotics lesson was part of visit to Pearson by the Pacific Science Center’s Science on Wheels program. The program offers nearly two hours of interactive science curriculum to participating schools. A 30-minute assembly is held to kickoff the event.

Exhibits are setup in classrooms and the library. Topics focus on math and science, including engineering and space exploration.
