Seabeck man killed in wreck

A 73-year-old Seabeck man was killed in a car wreck Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Seabeck Holly Road and Peter Hagen Road.

A 73-year-old Seabeck man was killed in a car wreck Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Seabeck Holly Road and Peter Hagen Road.

Rodney Dale Boustead was declared dead at the scene of the collision by Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue crews.

According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, Bousted was driving a 1986 Subaru Brat pick-up truck southbound Seabeck Holly Road approaching the intersection with Peter Hagen Road. A 2005 Chevrolet 2500 truck, meanwhile, being driven by an 18-year-old male driver was headed northbound on Seabeck Holly Road, also approaching the intersection with Peter Hagen Road.

The sheriff’s office says that Bousted initiated a left turn onto Peter Hagen Road in front of the oncoming Chevrolet truck and the two trucks met essentially head-on. The point of impact was in the northbound lane of travel.

The force of the collision caused the Subaru to travel approximately 90 feet north and rotate 180 degrees, coming to a stop on the roadway shoulder of the southbound lane of travel, at the intersection of Seabeck Holly Road and Christopher Road NW.The Chevrolet truck came to a stop a short distance further to the north, also in the southbound lane of travel.According to the sheriff’s office, the drivers of both vehicles were not wearing seatbelts.

Other aspects of the collision remain under investigation.The roadway was closed to through traffic until approximately 9 p.m. Local area residents were able to by-pass the collision scene using Christopher Road NW and NW Church Road.Persons who may have witnessed this collision are asked to contact Deputy Dave Green, sheriff’s traffic unit, at (360) 337-4634.
