SEABECK— Emergency crews were dispatched Jan. 26 to Hood Canal near Seabeck following reports that a small airplane crashed into the canal.
Crews had not located any airplane or debris in the water as of 2 p.m.
“We have reports of a plane that went down into the water but we have been in the area for quite some time now, so we don’t know if one has gone down or not,” Deputy Ken Dickinson of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said about 2 p.m.
The sheriff’s office was to launch one of its boats from a boat launch at a private residence on Old Holly Hill Road.
First responders have not been able to locate any evidence of a crashed airplane as of 2 p.m.
“State Patrol had an airplane in the area, the Coast Guard had an airplane in the area, and we’ve got deputies on the shore and so far no one has found any debris or oil or anything,” Dickinson said.
Initial calls to 911 around 1 p.m. reported a small, stunt-style, red and white airplane twirling in the air as it dove down toward the water.
This report will be updated as information becomes available.
