HANSVILLE — A ground area search was under way Saturday in and around the Driftwood Keys neighborhood in North Kitsap for a Hansville woman who was reported missing from a private residence Friday.
Elly Dehler, 82, was spending the night at a neighbor’s home in the 38100 block of Brant Road NE, Hansville, Sept. 29-30 when she apparently disappeared, according to sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilson.
It was reported that Dehler recently had been acting despondent.
A missing person complaint was filed just after 6 p.m. Friday by Dehler’s neighbors, when it was realized that Dehler’s whereabouts were unknown to anyone.
She was last seen at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating Dehler’s disappearance. Dehler was entered as a missing person into the national crime information data base at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Dehler’s personal possessions and vehicle were located at her residence. She has no known relatives in the area.
A search and rescue mission was initiated Friday evening with a ground search of the area around Driftwood Keys starting around 9 p.m. Participating in the search are the Washington Explorer Search & Rescue, Kitsap Unit; and the All Breeds Canine Search and Rescue Group of Kitsap County.
Dehler is described as a white female, standing 5 feet 2 inches and weighing 150 pounds. She has short blonde and gray hair, and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a beige-colored sweater and pants, and white-colored tennis shoes and socks. She speaks with a pronounced German accent.
“Sheriff’s patrol deputies and SAR personnel are involved in a thorough investigation into this woman’s disappearance,” according to a sheriff’s department press release. “The search includes residential areas as well as rural settings. If property owners notice anything unusual, please contact 9-1-1. This search will be time, resource and manpower intensive. The sheriff’s office must be 100 percent sure that nothing is overlooked.”
