UPDATE: The westbound lane (from Bainbridge to Poulsbo) of Highway 305 re-opened about 9:20 a.m., according to North Kitsap Fire & Rescue. “[D]rivers are strongly advised to stay clear of the area as back-ups remain significant,” NKF&R reported. “The eastbound lane is expected to remain closed for at least another hour.”
SUQUAMISH — Highway 305 was closed at Suquamish during morning commute time Dec. 16 because of a serious-injury crash involving two cars and a power pole down on the roadway.
North Kitsap Fire & Rescue reported at 8:48 a.m. that at least one person was being airlifted, and at least one more was being transported by ground. NKF&R advised motorists to avoid the area “due to the location of the incident. [I]t appears that there are no detours available to/from the Agate Pass Bridge and Bainbridge Island at this time.”
Motorists hoping to take the Bainbridge Island-Seattle ferry were advised to take the Kingston-Edmonds ferry.
Traffic was backed up on Highway 305 to Hostmark Avenue, on Suquamish Way to the Suquamish Tribe administration building, and on 305 to Day Road on Bainbridge.
The collision reportedly occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Three more crashes were reported in the area within the next hour and a half: A collision at Suquamish Way and Division Avenue; a non-injury crash at 305 and Viking Avenue; and a crash with possible injury on Front Street near the Liberty Bay Auto Center.
