Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported an incident in South Kitsap Dec. 15 involving a suicidal man.
Here is the sheriff’s office report provided by media liaison Deputy Sheriff Scott Wilson:
A pair of Kitsap County Sheriff’s patrol deputies and a detective responded to a private residence in the 4000 block of Banner Road SE, in South Kitsap, around 6 p.m. Dec. 15, concerning a 9-1-1 dispatch of a suicidal man armed with a gun. Additional information was broadcast that the man was distraught and that he was fighting with his wife for control of the gun.
The person making the call to 911 was reportedly up on the roof of the house.
Upon arrival, the deputies entered the residence and made their way upstairs as they heard a voice yelling for help. Entering the room, the lead deputy saw two females standing at the entry door to a walk-in closet. They appeared to be using cell phones to record what was taking place. The first deputy had to ask them twice to leave the room. They did so reluctantly, after the second request, but continued recording from outside the room.
Inside the closet deputies observed a woman laying on top of a large-statured man. Neither would say where the gun was located. Deputies were very concerned about personal safety as they couldn’t see what was in the hands of either person. Deputies entered the closet very slowly. The lead deputy took tactical (physical) control of the man on the floor (man was lying face down), and ordered the woman to slowly get up. The other two deputies covered the scene with their weapons drawn.
The handgun was located and passed to a second deputy.
The 39-year-old male and the 47-year-old female are husband and wife. The husband was escorted outside for an evaluation by a South Kitsap Fire & Rescue medic unit.
The wife was interviewed inside the house. She told deputies that she had confronted her husband about his alleged infidelity. During the argument, the husband grabbed a handgun and threatened to take his life. During the incident, the wife said that she struck her husband with a candle to prevent the situation from becoming worse.
The wife told deputies that her husband has a past history of suicidal issues. She said she was uninjured and no longer required assistance from the deputies.
The handgun was retained by deputies and placed into sheriff’s office custody for safekeeping.
The husband refused to discuss with deputies what had taken place. The lead deputy transported the husband to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for an involuntary commitment.Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported an incident in South Kitsap Dec. 15 involving a suicidal man.
