The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is searching for those responsible for a recent rash of vandalism in South Kitsap.

Jeremy R. Denney, a 32-year-old Port Orchard resident, heard dogs barking outside his home at about 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 22.

When he looked outside, he saw a group of teenagers.

The next day, he heard his car run over something as he was backing out of his driveway, according to a report from Deputy Scott Wilson, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

“He got out and looked under the tire and saw a crunched piece of metal,”  Wilson said. “He realized it was the top off his landscaping lamp post, wedged under the tire.”

The glass globe from the lamp was lying on the ground, and its light bulb was gone.

“(Denney) posted a letter by e-mail to all the other homeowners in his neighborhood and was notified of several other vandalisms done during the same time frame,” Wilson said.

Neighbors reported:
• a concrete block was moved to the middle of the sidewalk, creating a hazard for pedestrians;
• someone placed a pile of rocks into one neighbor’s back yard. The homeowners don’t know where the rocks came from;
• three homes on Keystone Court all had their door bells rung in the middle of the night; and,
• two homes found the outdoor water faucets turned on and the water running.

“One neighbor witnessed a silver-colored Toyota or Honda leaving the neighborhood, and a witness recalls seeing a very tall person getting in the vehicle, possibly 6-foot-6,” according to the report from the Sheriff’s Office.

“They may not get the deputy who handeled this,” said Wilson, “but they will get a deputy.”
